Morning Group,
Looks like I'm now shopping for family coverage so I can enter retirement at the end of the year.
I've always had coverage through megacorp so I'm a little lost doing the shopping for my self.
How do I determine if an Individual Blue plan (blue Cross) is the right way to go? Or one of the Health savings plans?
We are a family of 3, one being a kid in college. I'm 55 yrs and the wife a few years younger if that info helps.
I'm mostly looking at Blue Cross, they are big in my area and it is currently what I have with megacorp.
If this link works these are the plans I'm looking at now. The 750 plan has been recommended to me by BCBS agent.
UpDate: I am beginning to think megacorp may give me some help ($) with the cost (maybe 1/2) of the first year but no promises for years down the road.

You folks that have been through this please glance at these plans and give me input,
Thanks for help,

1) When does it start? At 62 or when you start taking SS?
2) How much is the Part B premium? Is there any Part A cost
3) What are Parts C and D?
4) Do most people buy gap insurance, if so what does it cost?
5) If you have health insurance from MegaCorp or as a ERed State employee does that coverage stop when you become eligible for Medicare.

I've looked at the state "Connector" site and can get a good insurance with no deductible and low annual maxes for $400/month. Now I'm thinking about vision and dental. Has anyone experience of buying these? How much do they cost? Are they any good?

I'd be interested to hear your stories and experiences of buying and using these insurance products in MA.......and other states too

Hi all, hoping for some insight.

Hi all, hoping for some insight.
Wife will be going on medicare shortly,I am trying to decide what is best, been looking at this stuff for 3 months and still not sure.
Leaning towards Aetna medicare advantage plan for 72 a month with drugs. It is a HMO, they also offer supplement plan F for 156 month and you need to get a seperate plan for drugs. The cost of the supplement also rise with increasing age.

We are in the Philly area, travel to Indianapolis a lot and they have network docs out there also.

The downside to a advantage plan is you need to go to a PCP in network doc and get a referral if you need to see a specialist, outside of that seems like advantage plans are better than a supplement.
What am I missing.

No underwriting for advantage plans, supplements have underwriting if you do not enter when you first go into medicare.

She is healthy takes no drugs. I am becoming insurance poor especially with LTC isurance at about 4200/year for both of us.

Also what I have read is that the governemnt with the new healthcare bill is trying to kill off the advantage plans for some reason. They seem pretty good to me.

Thanks
Old Mike

Supposedly it can be done (according to insurance sites on the Internet). I was diagnosed in August.

After 3 months on Januvia and weight loss, I got my readings consistently down to 88 (A1C of 5.7), however a little experiment to take me off it hasn't worked so well (readings are now consistently about 105). So, I'm going to start a low dose of Metformin.

But, I, like many others, have procrastinated in bulking up my non-work-related life insurance.
