Confused about dryer sheets

1st Monday of Retirement
Celebrated My 55th birthday on July 13th retired on July 18th after 34 years at an Insurance company. I was a Trainer for the last 20 years, so job was very stressful. I have been a lurker for the past 2 years. This forum has answered a lot of questions or pointed me in the direction to prepare for early retirement.
I did not retire with a 1,000,000 but I'm very resourceful and will make the best of what I have. I have about 560,000 between a 401k and the lump sum from a pension. My pension was penalized about 40% because of the early retirement. I know that staying any longer would not have been good for my mental or physical state of being.
I'm married and my husband is not eligible to retire for about 7-10 years. I was fortunate to get on his medical plan that reduced the cost of medical by 200 dollars. I also have a Long Term Care policy that will cost about $18.00 a month
that I will continue to pay. I took the policy out when it was first offered in 1992 under the group plan. I know that may have been an over kill but compared to the what it would cost today at my age, I'm glad I did. It also has some perks that is grandfather today, that is no longer being offered.
I live about 18 miles west of Atlanta.

Welcome Destiny1. Just because you don't have a mil doesn't mean you're not wanted or appreciated in this forum. Some of us have, some don't, but we learn a lot from each other. Keep us posted, please, on your transition.

Rambler is right -- there are lots of sub-millionaires on here. And I find their stories most interesting. Creative retirees are the real inspiration.

Welcome Destiny1! You will do fine! Congratulations! There is so much savings in retirement you will find you hardly spend as much money as working. You only spend on what you really want... not work clothes and gas to commute etc. Have fun relaxing and you are right about preserving you mental and physical health.

Congratulations and welcome ! I think you did the right thing getting out for your well being. I'm sure you will do fine. Enjoy yourself and all the things you have been looking forward to in retirement!

I also quit my job on the 18th and today is my first Monday of retirement

I also retired this year at 55 years old after 30 years in the insurance industry. Job was too stressfull and had to go. Have about the same amount of assets. I think you will do fine.
