Been lurking here a year on this great board! Thanks to all for your posts. I am 56 and began to strategically plan for RE in1993. Come around 2003 a great, wise, successful friend of 75 years young began to prompt, mentor and educate me in all manners of FI. I am truely thankful to him for this and his friendship. We live in the good ol' US of A. My DW will turn 60 this year and begin to collect her basic British pension. She also has her quarters to collect SSI. Our last of 6 children has 1 year left in college. We own our home and 8 motor vehicles (2 out of neccessity and 6 for pleasure). I like Harleys and Hotrods. We have no debt. 70% of our nest egg is currently in my 401k. Of that 51% is in Dodge & Cox Balanced, 31% in international equities and the balance in VINIX and VEIEX. I have maxed out my contributions (18%) to the 401k for years along with maxing out the catchup election since I turned 50. The company match is 9%. When I RE I will receive a $31000 non-COLA'd pension. I will start to collect my SSI at 62 since family has a history of heart ailments. Our asset allocation will most likely be at 50/50 at RE. Most of our nest egg was generated in the early 401k years through company stock and its splits. On the 30% taxable side we own the Dodge & Cox Income and International Funds along with energy stocks and energy funds and 5% are in commodities. I am impressed with Dodge and Cox funds and am considering going with them with a rollover at RE. I like to keep it simple. It's great to be a part of this board. I am indebted to all those who impart knowledge. Thanks.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!

Welcome to the board, hogtied... sounds like you guys are all set!

will unplug in 12 to 24 months. Going to work at least one more year to pay the tuition for the last college year of my daughter. Trying to keep her college loans low.
