Been lurking for a few weeks now and thought I'd join in.

Just started a new job and am reviewing the funds available through the 401k plan (a ton!)

Many are through Vanguard which I've gathered is pretty popular around here... just wondered what folks think are some of the best Vanguard funds. So far I've been basing my judgement mainly on expense ratio (shooting for <.3). I'd like a heavy focus on international (currently about 15% of my portfolio but I'd like to beef it up a bit).

A little more about me:

age 28 & married... shooting for retirement by age 40... it looks possible if both DW and I keep working after kids come

We're both in what I'd consider pretty well compensated fields, but definitely understand that there's more to life than working more and more to move up the corporate ladder...

Welcome to the board, bots... the Vanguard experts will be along shortly!

As for the specific Vanguard funds, you want index funds with low expenses. The index funds are listed at:

https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsIndexOnly

So figure out your allocation, and see if Vanguard can fill it. Something like:

Large Cap (VFINX)
Mid Cap (VIMSX)
Small Cap (NAESX)
International (VGTSX)
REIT (VGSIX)

So now figure out what you need, check out that website, and get your funds picked out :)
