Hello Forum

Hello, this is Dave from Michigan. I am 57 and leaning towards retiring at 58 from one of the auto companies in the area. I am eligible to retire as of a couple of years ago; health benefits can be purchased at same rate I am paying now and my frozen pension could kick in as well.

So many factors to consider...solvency of social security/medicare, political changes that could negatively affect retirees, investment selections and general concern about the unknown.
I am here to learn from other's experiences and points of view and maybe share some of my own.

Welcome Dave in Michigan - Congratulations on being in the position to retire. There are things in your control, and things outside of your control. This is a good place to talk with others about both. The concerns you have raised have been discussed in several threads. Worry less -- plan more!

Welcome Dave,

My brother in law just retired from GM at the age of 58. His was due to a health concern, but he decided to retire after being released from the Doctor.
In his case, he got a substantial pension amount to tide him over to age 62. At that age, his pension will be reduced by about 40% to allow SS to make up the difference. Seems like a forced decision to take SS at 62 even if he would like to wait longer. His health ins is covered at like 35.00 per month so that was not a big concern. He will likely have to tap his savings to live on until both SS amounts pay out in about 5 years. He had 33 years in when he retired.

Good luck to you in retirement,

VW

Hi Robbie,
Nice to meet you. Chins is still open. Shouldn't give this info online, but I am looking out my window and can see Chins.

Yup. I remember parking there many times. Place was always packed with Fisher Body right across the street. Yeah, I know...

Go have a few egg rolls for me, best I ever had and I get them (and a dozen to go) whenever I'm back "home"

Thanks for the pic, makes me hungry -
