Hi from golfersailor
New here been following this forum for several months. Married 65 and retired since May 09.
Accepted buy out from large corporate company after 31 years. Burned out from all the travel and Corp changes. First two years were really rough filled with major health issues. Now in great shape! Focused on working out and losing a little weight and replace it with muscle. Investments so far have been good but not great. We don't need a home run just a decent return. Lucky I have a decent pension. Wife is also retired and in great shape. Five grandkids who we see often. We live in Ohio very close to Lake Erie, yes we have a small boat.
Own our home and have no debt. Biggest surprise in retirement medial bills and monthly premiums. Fixed this by tuning 65 and getting Medicare and being healthier!

Hi golfersailor and welcome. As a golfer and a sailor your screen name caught my attention.
My biggest surprise so far (only 9 months in) is the amount of golf that I have been playing. Pre-retirement I only played 9 holes a week and an occasional 18 on weekends. I now play with different groups at least three times a week and sometimes more. Unfortunately I haven't lost much weight with all this play.
While DW and I have blown the golf budget to smitherines, overall expenses are close to what I thought they would be. Health insurance has been lower but probably because I was so conservative in budgeting for them.

Welcome aboard. As a former golfer and former sailor, your screen name got my attention too.
We lived in central Ohio about 20 years ago and kept a sailboat at Port Clinton/Sandusky for a few years. Sailed out to Put-in-Bay, Pelee Island, Vermillion, Huron and all over that area. Lake Erie is fun but shallow so it gets choppy fast when the wind comes up. We got knocked down 20 miles offshore in a storm there once - DW still talks about sitting in the cockpit up to her knees in water once the boat righted itself again, until the water drained out again...

Hello and welcome to the forum.
You have some nice sailing grounds near you on lake Erie.
Where do you keep your boat? We rented a Catalina once from Huron marina (Harbor North I think), but what we really liked is when we trailered our sailboat to East Harbor State Park.
Do your grand kids like to sail?

It can be hard to be both a golfer and a sailor when you are still working and live in the midwest. I am sure opening up Monday - Friday has helped. Now you need to work on opening up Nov - March....

What do you have for a small boat? I have two small sailboats - an old O'day Daysailor that I have had for about 25 years and a Trac 14 cat that I bought last summer for fun. best $500 I ever spent - what fun.
That plus a Larson 18' bowrider and a Honda PwC keep me busy on the water (20' from the front door).

Currently we have a ODay which we dock at the sailing club in Sandusky, Ohio. Played golf today instead of sailed and shot 83.
