Hi, i am Maria

Hi, I live in New Jersey. My Husband passed away 5 years 2014, My son and i currently live alone, but he is in college, My first daughter got married in 2017 and the second is a real estate agent. Currently i have being visiting New York to see How my Husband company is running and management, where I have been for most of the time since my husband passed.

Our son will graduate from college and i am planning to create a space for him in any of the department.

Our Investments $3.2M and a little pension. i currently do not have access to any retiree health insurance benefits so i am in public market since iretired.

i have been trying to read some article and study this board, I am impressed, more of a community within which different types of issues are discussed. I have learned a lot here already.

Thanks

Hi Maria, welcome! Your message isn't clear. Are you working/managing your husband's company? Is HC subsidized by low income? I guess your age is important to the message. Have you been in NY since DH passing (5 yrs) and your residence is in NJ?

You have found a great site with great people. I also like to socialize here about other topics then just money, there is more to life after retirement then talking money. Lol

Welcome.

There are a lot of very smart people on this site. Of course, we all have different points of view, so part of the trick is figure that out when you read somebody's advice or opinions.

Hmmm... Not a young and innocent Helen like the following French girl.

Hélène, Je m'appelle Hélène / Helen, my name is Helen
Je suis une fille / I am a girl
Comme les autres / Like all others
J'ai mes joies, mes peines / I have my joy, my pain
Elle font ma vie / They make up my life
Comme la votre / Like yours
Je voudrais trouver l'amour / I would like to find love
Simplement trouver l'amour / Simply finding love

It's not really a retirement issue, but since you put that out there, I'd urge you to NOT do this. (I'm also assuming that you own/manage the company, although it's not clear.)

You'd be doing your son a great disservice by giving him a job instead of letting him earn one. Most people learn how to do better by needing to do better, and if he has a job handed to him and doesn't need to work as hard at it as everyone else, he won't. Then he may not be able to get a job anywhere else if he doesn't learn what it takes to perform well and to work well with others. In addition, if he is given preferential treatment over people who have worked there longer and put in more effort, company morale will suffer, and so performance will suffer, and if it gets bad enough you will have no company to leave to your children. Preferential treatment doesn't do anyone any favors.

Have him apply where he wants to apply without any help or intervention from you, and maybe they won't recognize the name. And make sure the managers know they can and should treat him like any other employee.

Just in case Maria is not the same person as Helen, I like to post a song for the departing.

Oh Maria Maria
She reminds me of a West Side story
Growing up in Spanish Harlem
She's living the life just like a movie star
Oh Maria Maria
She fell in love in East L.A
To the sounds of the guitar, yeah, yeah
Played by Carlos Santana
