DW and I second this, albeit from our anecdotal experience 25 years ago. considered moving to LA and discovered that young MD would make just as much in the middle of flyover country--and that the increase for a young JD wouldn't come close to making up for a couple's increased cost of living.
(DS, OTOH, comes out ahead as engineer in NorCal, although his miserly consumption spending as a singleton is a big assist in that.)
