Hi I'm Back

Well, I drifted away for a while and about a month ago I started reading the forum posts again. I got my password reset and now I am back.

It is nice to see some of the familiar names from a couple years ago and sad to see that some others that had helped me back then do not seem to be around.

With all of the debt being racked up by the government and the Fed activities such as QE, I tended to gravitate towards the gloom and doom blogs. I also briefly toyed with the idea of actively managing my equity allocation, as if I did no learn my lesson back in 2001. Luckily I started reading The Intelligent Investor and it reminded me of sticking to the true path.

I was underweight equities in 2013 so I did not get as much of a boost as most of you probably did. However, after going through three big market drops and getting older I was/am more concerned with "return of principal" rather than "return on principal."

[mod edit]

Some recent posts I read discussed the OMY syndrome. I guess that I am a prime example of that. My original goal back at the height of the dot com bubble was to retire at 50. That got moved back to 55. When 55 came, it was "wait until the annual bonus gets awarded" (twice). Now that I will soon be 58 I suppose that I don't have that much time do do it.

So, anyway, I am glad to be back and looking forward to some interaction and getting advice from the forum members.

Hi Joe(sxm3), welcome back.

As you have found out, there's a lot of bad/not helpful information out there and there's a lot of good/helpful information in here.
While doom and gloom has a certain appeal, it doesn't work all that well in the long run.

I, too, miss some of the folks who have helped me (or, at least were interesting) but no longer seem to be involved in this forum.
