Hi- I've been lurking/reading for quite a while & feel like I already know some of you.
Jan 24 '07 is my fire date (state job, with strange payroll periods). I'm only staying that long to be credited with - and use- an annual chunk of use or lose time. Then I'm OUTAHERE!

OT, when I just now registered, I saw that I had a message. When I looked, there was some pretty stupid but gross porno pix - posted by "Charles Scwab".

Admin- are you aware of this? Have others been so lucky?

Look forward to future posting & conversations.

Hi, Bobot. Many/all of us got the spam. SOmeone appears to have hacked the board, although the admins managed to figure out how to put the kibosh on it for now.

You got firm plans for your post-separation time?

Apparently we've all been "blessed" with this spam-- some of us three or four times.

Posters with fewer than 10 posts have had their private message options turned off while we stand around scratching our heads the admins take swift decisive action to prevent more automated PM hacking. This attack may be the first exploitation of a flaw in the (free) software, so a solution won't be easy.

I kinda take it personally-- the spammer is using Hawaiian Telcom as their ISP. Hopefully they'll respond to Dory's complaints more swiftly than they respond to their regular customers.

Anyway for posters like you the best way to restore your PM capability is to swiftly achieve a post count higher than 10. Otherwise hopefully there won't be any other effect on your ability to participate.

But back to your introduction. You only have about 153 days left to come up with an answer to the question "But what will you DO all day?!?" What's next?

Hmmmm...... 153 days, eh? I've been reckoning in months & weeks. I wonder at what point xxx days FEELS shorter than y months or zz weeks. This needs further study.

"What'll I do" is of course an important issue on many levels, one I have & will recognize & deal with. SOme short-term things:

1) Doing nothing is a perfectly fine option. The other day the Pope said we all work too much. Yay Pope.

2)Build deck & begin addition on house.

3)Read a LOT - books I have wanted to but never did read.

4)Study classical guitar.

5)Spend a lot more time volounteering at at the Free Clinic

6)More and more regular exercise

7) Boss asked me the other day if I would consider "helping out" occaisionally after retirement. I replied "I don't think you could afford me." I love it.

8) At least one useful thing around the house every day. My promise to still working spouse (bless her).

9)See #1.

Totally apropos of nothing -- I think that's a GREAT retirement date. It's my birthday. Shall we party together? (Though my ER date is 2010-ish.)
