I'm in!

At end of the month my wife and I will have achieved our goal of FIRE @57 yrs old with paid off mortgage and no debt. We were hoping to do it a bit earlier but I stuck it out at work for a couple extra years to get about a year's severance that came about with the relocation of my work group (huge carrot to stay!). Tracking our spending for the year brings us well under a 3.5 to 4% threshold so we are comfortable with our numbers. SS will be a bonus. I think the main thing will be to work out a strategy for reducing our tax burden as we transfer 401k savings to Roth. Hopefully there is a wealth of posts on this. Anyway, this is something we have been planning for over 25 years, so it does feel great to finally achieve our goal. It will be interesting to adjust our mindset from saving to (judicially) spending and not having a paycheck hitting twice monthly!

Way to go - I'm three weeks in and still adjusting to the "lifestyle." We paid off our home and I can live off of less than 4 percent of savings + wifey still w*rks. In three years - pension begins, so that is my gravy on the meatloaf.
