I chose retirement somewhat reluctantly after 2 lay offs. I took the hint that my minor skills were no longer relevant and bowed out. Any doubts I have about sliding into retirement disappear as soon as I hear the traffic reports at commute times. Just entering my second year of retirement and feel I am getting the hang of it. First year was derailed a bit by my mother's death which combined with other factors to tip me into depression but I am over that and am now finding that there is a quiet joy to be had in simple tasks. And there is nothing quite as cheering as knowing the ice will be off within a month and I can cast my hand tied flies into the lake and see if super glue will truly stop them disintegrating on impact!
