Journalist needs some early retirees...
Greetings kind folks. My name is Dyan Machan and I'm a writer at Smart Money magazine. We are doing a cover story on people who have figured out how to quit the r. race early (unfortunately, I'm not one of them yet). The story (which will be illustrated with lots of portraits) needs a couple of people who are still in the planning stages and have not yet jumped ship. Obviously, if the couple is super wealthy and quitting early doesn't involve any downshifting or sacrifice--it's not much of a story. I am hoping I might be able to solicit a few candidates here. But hurry, I really only have until Monday (latest) to do the interviews. Much appreciated,
Dyan

My wife and I would be willing to.
I don't know if we fit your profile or not, though.
29/28. Didn't start saving any money into our 401(k) until four years ago. Struggled with credit card debt until last year. Got serious about goals this year... learning a lot about investing along the way.
We have basic cable and own one car. Our goal is to downsize even further and buy a small farmette that we can turn into an organic garden.
Now, the part where we might not fit...
Our household income is rather high.. we're not rich, but still.

My wife and I might be interested. Just turned 48. Both work for Dow component companies. Looking to quit at some point.

Not sure if I fit the profile or not. I took an ER package (lump sum pension and 401k) during a national downsizing in megacorp in 11/03 (after 27 yrs). Found FT employment in another company for 2 1/2 years and now back with megacorp for 2 year term (13 months left to go). Figure I will retire at the end of the 2 yrs at 51 years old. Husband will work 4 more years til 55.
