MN transplant ready to RE back East

Hello all, Just found this forum in the past few days and have enjoyed scanning through the posts. DW (52) and I (55) are planning to move back East in Summer 2018 after as our youngest heads to college (back East). May/may not retire at that time - depends upon employer situation. Pretty confident I could swing it if needed.

Just digging into FireCalc tool - looks interesting, ran first simulation last night. Have had a fee-only CFP for past 15 years that I'm reasonably satisfied with. That said, thinking I could DIY going forward. Looking forward to learning and contributing at times.

Somewhere along a mountain ridge between the GA and PA borders. Grew up in NE PA on same ridge - need elevation, but further South for shorter/less severe winter. Like the area west of Asheville, NC and far Western MD, the triangle shaped part. Rural but not remote is my preference.
