Motor scooter rider and husband

FInally decided to stop lurking and join up. I FIREd about 3 years ago, when it became clear that my last career was foundering (I was the last of 3 heretrosexual therapists in my region, and NOT welcomed by the feminist powers-that-be). As of now, I'm a DINK on FIRE and liking it. I've no intentions of returning to any of my former professions, which were (in no particular order):

-In-water boat-bottom scrubber
-Dive boat operator
-Graduate research assistant
-Associate professor of speech science
-Entrepreneur & consultant in small business
-Banquet waiter
-Microcomputer database programmer
-Minimum-wage septic-tank cleaner
-Information search specialist
-Homeless bum
-Speech pathologist

I spend my time surfing the net; catching up on things scientific; reading (extensive interests); travel; working on projects plus the house & yard; being amused & cynical about politics-as-usual; riding & touring on my Suzuki Burgman 650 motor scooter--named the DEMON DUCK of DOOM, and is 'a wolf in sheep's clothing' if there ever was one--plus chasing DW around the house until she catches me.

Welcome and let us know how the FIRE has been over the past 3 years. BTW which of your past careers did you enjoy the most? I'm thinking it may not be the septic-tank cleaner, though I guess we all put up some septic output at most jobs.

Re: Motor scooter rider and husband

Hands down, my best and favorite career was the Research Speech Scientist. Think of the male lead in My Fair Lady. I finally got my Ph.D. in 1975, and did this in a medical context for about 10 years. Then, in 1984-85, the whole field imploded and died, when the Fed stopped awarding even the tiny grants we existed on (now, only the digital signal processing, electrical engineer types do it). So, rather than sell pencils on the street corner, I took my research skills, and did small business as a consultant for a few years. Then, in a 2-year period, a lot of s**t came down all at once, and I went into my 'wilderness decade' ... which included being dis-owned and dis-inherited, having my kids paid/bribed not to communicate with me, going nuts and becoming the waiter/septic/bum guy. Obviously, I survived and prospered ... somehow ... damned if I know ... until I met DW.

Re: Motor scooter rider and husband

I recently sold my Suzuki FA50. It was a 1980something with only 700 miles on it. I'm the original owner. Funny how even during $3.00/gal gas I was having trouble selling it in NY. So I hauled it down to NC and it sold for my asking price of $400 cash, immediately.

You see in NC you don't need to license, register, nor insure a scooter. So after a DUI or DWI... you get the picture?

Thats why they call 'em likker-cikkels
