New to the forum

Hello everyone,
Just found this board a few days ago, and I've been lurking ever since. Lots of good stuff here, and it sounds like many of the folks have the same mentality as me regarding retirement (not much emphasis on "Get Rich Quick" schemes). Anyway, I'm still relatively young (early 30's), and while I've managed to save up a nice amount in the time I've been working (roughly $100k), I'm not in a big rush to retire just yet. However, I like to plan ahead, especially when compound interest is involved. So I'll probably just ask a few questions from time to time. I consider myself a novice when it comes to investing, so I still have a lot to learn.

One question: is there a link or a thread which explains the various acronyms? Most of them I can figure out, but I'm still puzzled about a few of them. I keep seeing "DH" and "DW" pop up. I've figured out the "Husband/Wife," but what's the "D"? Dear? Divorced? Dead? Dumb?

Oh, and about me: I'm a computer engineer living in Austin, TX; married, no kids.

Welcome - if you click on the Forum Admin Board the first topic explains all of the acronyms. Good question because it took me a week to ask it when I first joined. Good luck.

Ah, thanks. So I wasn't too far off with "Dear." Although I must say, some of the threads are much more amusing if you use "Dumb."

Hi CIF! Glad to have ya 'round here! I'm fairly new too, and I'm definitely learning more as I hang around reading the posts, trying to get my digs in where I can. The Austin area is great....I moved here (Bossier City, LA) after living in and around Austin & Bastrop for 15 years. I left shortly after Bergstrom AFB closed, since that's where I worked. Followed my job here & now I have just a hair under 6 years till I can retire. See you on the boards!

Good to meet you! Yes, Austin's a great town; no other place in Texas to live as far as I'm concerned. I've got many more than 6 years until I retire, but I hope they fly by for you. Life's too short to spend all your time working.
