Greetings to all:
I just joined the ER forums today but have been reading posts regularly
for the past few months. I read a lot of different finance related forums.
This has become one of my favorites because of the good information,
humor and a very civil tone compared to some of the "bashing boards" I've
seen. I'm here to learn and enjoy the FIRE community.
A little about myself: 50 years old, married for 30 years. 29 years in the
electric power industry. DW works in grade school Special Ed. Two children (grown up and married), three grandkids with a fourth on the way.
I'm eligible for ER in less than 5 years but will probably go past that by
several years due to increased pension, longer time to build investments
and the fact that I still enjoy my job very much. DW plans to work about
5 more years.
We are debt free except for a modest mortgage payment and are
saving up to build our retirement house in the next two years. Also
saving in the 401k and planning to start some Roth IRAs later this year.
I'm looking forward to participating in these forums. If I ask a question
that's been addressed a gazillion times, feel free to say "Hey dummy, check out this thread where we covered it at length":p
I won't be offended. Good to be with you all.

Hank

Welcome aboard, hankster! I agree with all the nice things you say about the people here :)

I wonder if that's because we're older. We should plot "Tone Civility" versus "member age."

Maybe just because we're happier. Even impending FIRE makes me happy.

Welcome hankster. You'll find that some of us over 60 are grumpy. ^-^
