Notice given 117 days to go
I will turn 55 in March and had made up my mind to leave in 2016 but couldn't narrow down a final date.
Then on Tuesday my boss stopped by for a chat and that night I got out the calendar and picked May 6th as my final date. all that was left to do was mail the pension paperwork.
The next day when I mailed the pension paperwork it felt as if a weight had been lifted from my chest. I couldn't stop smiling. After 32 years with the same organization my passion has faded and I didn't want to be the guy that they all wished would just leave.
My wife is 48 and will continue to work although she only works 180 days a year so we will have plenty of time to travel together. One respondent mentioned on one of my previous posts that you aren't truly FIRE'd if your wife cant afford to retire at the same time.
I already have 2 trips planned and creating my agenda for retirement, cooking classes, guitar lessons, language lessons and so forth.

Congratulations, now you just have to survive those 117 days. I am sure the smile on your face will have plenty of questions from coworkers.
