Ready to learn more (and lurk less)

Hello All!

I've enjoyed lurking for several years - being reassured by the tips & tools provided in this forum.

I'm fortunate that my current income stream (primarily from rental properties and income producing investments ) provides enough to cover my annual needs. I have one kid in college and one in high school with some college saving set aside for each.

At 56, I have some time before I will dip into my retirement accounts.

My retirement fund allocations haven't been touched in 6+ years and are around an 80/20 split! (I have a hard time making changes to my asset allocation even when I know it's what I want to do.)

I think it's time for me for a focused review and update to the structure of my assets, tax situation and income flow to ensure some peace of mind.

Welcome. Peace of mind is, IMHO, a key to successful retirement. I retired to eliminate stress not to stress over my financial situation. There is a thread going about using a financial planner. I do not use one, but did meet with my CPA (with my DW) to review the financial plan I created as well as our budget. My DW was much happier when my CPA confirmed our assumptions looked good and we would not be ordering dinner from Chewy.com anytime soon. Have you used FireCalc yet under differing assumptions and AA's?

Congratulations. It probably took me 30 years to figure out that the more I played with my food, the less food I ended up with.

Before you do that, I'd suggest that you read Richard Thaler's excellent book: "Misbehaving" Hopefully you like that book enough to move on to Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking Fast and Slow." IMO understanding ourselves as humans is a big help when making high-impact decisions.
