Back in my hometown bar pool playing days...3 beers would be the sweet spot. I could just about run the table because I didn't sweat the shots.
I just did the shot. Kerplunk...Kerplunk...Kerplunk...being a Physics major gave me a definite advantage. The rest was practice and good cold beer.
I had my own stick, which was funny as hell since I'm a woman. There is a $50 story behind why I had that Mali pool stick
.... ahem...anyway...
I don't really drink anymore except for NA beer and the occasional real beer if NA isn't available. I figured I better save some of my liver for the golden years. I certainly gave it a workout before.

A few glasses vino would inhibit inhibitions. A band with good tunes adds / added to to the mood.

For example:

You may think that you are able to speak, screw, and sound off much better when you are hosed in the zone, but there is a good chance that it only appears that way to you... Maybe you should tape your performance and review it the next day?

I still have an old cassette recording of two college buddies and I singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" at a karaoke bar. In the middle of the song, one of my buddies says on the tape: "Don't throw beer".......

I sang the falsetto........

Sometimes I am very grateful there is/was no video of some of our best stuff!
About 20 of us got on stage with the band at our wedding to "help" sing Willin'. We were all fabulous, as my recollection serves me, and I wouldn't want any video (or audio) to spoil the hazy memories of our perfect pitch.

When I was in high school I didn't drink at all. Our stage band also did gigs for money (switching out piano players so we could still compete in school competitions). We played an anesthesiologists convention one night. They told us that during breaks we could help ourselves to food and drinks. We (the horn section) really liked the fruit punch. I had never heard of sangria. We were trashed by the second break. We did all sorts of crazy jamming (big band jazz), thinking we sounded great! The next Monday in class we listened to the tapes. And we were right! It was excellent. I'm sticking with the theory about musicians and intoxication. It loosens up the inhibitions AND the fingers.

Of course I drove home in first gear that night because I didn't want to get arrested.

I was sure that second line was going to be "It was a real gas!"...
