2006 Retirements

Everywhere you look you see articles looking back on 2006 listing the biggest events of 2006, the biggest news stories, etc. I thought it only fitting that we list who on the forum achieved ER (or R, or semi-R), in 2006.

Martha, I know you rang the bell at midnight. Who else hung it up in '06?

I am really looking forward to a great 07 - we have several long trips planned after ski season is over!

Re: 2006 Retirements

Checked out of 27 years of programming Oct 17 2006. I have enjoyed
waking up every morning since, and cannot imagine going back to that
soul-grinding atmosphere of the last few months of work.

Re: 2006 Retirements

Dec 1st was my last day at the job and flew to my new house in Fla. that night. I'm still doing a few things from my house in Fla. for my job but it will all end this month.

34 years in a car dealership just about did me in. I found this forum just in time.
This will be an interesting year for sure.

Re: 2006 Retirements

My last physical day was last Friday, the 29th...last day on paper was yesterday. I'm truly a newbie at this FIRE business!

Re: 2006 Retirements

I ER'd on 4/27/2006. Took a couple of months to decompress and then took a "retirement job" (as in the other thread) doing part-time admin work at my church. Waaaaaaay low stress, I enjoy it and feel like I'm doing something useful, yet I still have lots of time for ME. It's all good!

My first day of life began on July 17, 2006. I'm learning to walk now. I'm hoping to learn how to run and then fly soon!

I don't remember my exact date since it wasn't planed and ended up being a slow departure but I believe it was early October, 06.

Re: 2006 Retirements

My last day of work was 06/02/06. I had 32 years and 8 months of working for Uncle Sam. I am really enjoying it so far and can't believe that I have been retired for seven months already! The time has really flown!

Tell your parents to open up a Vanguard account in your name and start putting a couple of grand in per year. You will be able to ER before you are 50 without saving a dime

Yakers' wife retired in June of 2006 after a teaching career. Yakers will probably go in 2007.

Re: 2006 Retirements

Bailed on May 21,2006 after 32 years in nursing. Still in the decompression phase. DH says that I should take a year to fully decompress. Who Am I to argue. He ER'ed two years ago and took the transation slow. Now he is enjoying the hobbies he did not have time for when he worked.

We are "DINKS on FIRE" and we love it.

A co-worker of mine called me recently to wish me a Happy New Year and to fill me in on all of the company news. Do I have to say it...thank God I'm not there!!!!!!

I love my life. Love it, love it, love it, love it.

Re: 2006 Retirements

I jumped out of the rat race on March 24, 2006 after 37 years as a machinist. It sure feels good to be away from all of that. 8)

Re: 2006 Retirements

I bailed Nov.17th after 39 years in Nursing . One of my former co-workers asked me if there was anything I would have done differently and I said yes ,I would have bailed out sooner!!!
