2012 Mayan prediction, part 2

I want to see Godzilla......

I wonder, do people that take an end of the world scenario seriously keep on doing it? Did the folks that believed the Harold Camping end of the world prediction for May 21, 2011 just moved right on over to the Mayan end of the world 12/21/12 or is it different folks?

ejman,

I suspect that many of them might be the same people.

I remember reading about something in the psychology (I can't recall the term) of the people who espouse an extreme view (such as the world ending on 12/21) .....that when that event does NOT happen, they actually become even more fervent about that event happening....just at a different time out in the future. (Sort of believing that THEN they can say, "See, I told you so.")

Have you noticed all day people were making apocalypse jokes like there's no tomorrow?

I dunno, but as long as they don't decide to try to take other people with them into the great beyond, I will be a happy camper.

The winter solstice (end of year) doesn't occur until 21 Dec 11:12 UTC which corresponds to 5:12 am CST (UTC-6). Just to be a bit more precise. We have just under 5 hours left.......

December solstice 2012: 21 Dec 11:12 (UTC)

(So, if the sun still rises here in the US, I think we're OK ;) )

If we're now rats, maybe the world as we knew it did end.

Must be, btw, what is your excuse for being up so early, or are you still up from the old world:D

Mine is, I have a car safety and emission inspection at 8 AM. The weather blather prediction was for lots of snow and wind. THat did not happen either.

And a One, and .......

So, the key question now is, why didn't the world end. Was it something we did, or something we didn't do? Can we repeat it? Who was responsible? How much does it cost?

So many unanswered questions.

Well, folks, the fact that I am still able to make this post simply means that the "greater being" decided to keep his simulation running a bit longer, instead of hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del.

See: http://www.early-retirement.org/forums/f27/our-universe-might-only-be-ones-and-zeroes-64118.html.

Meanwhile, I also woke up to see the indices now share the color of the new avatars of our distinguished panel. Yep, I told ya so. That on top of the recent "Wh***" means that we may just suffer in this imaginary world a little longer, instead of it vanishing.

Read the end was supposed to happen at 11:11 am .... but why not 12:21.12 ... oh THAT passed too ... oh well. Guess I better get shopping for Christmas ... and make plans for new years ... and ...

I'd like to know who scheduled the Apocalypse on a Friday? That's just poor planning. A Monday would be better, imo....
