I picked up a Raspberry Pi 2 for $30 at Microcenter.

Specs:
Broadcom BCM2836 Arm7 Quad Core Processor at 900MHz
1GB RAM
4 x USB 2.0 ports
Full size HDMI port, hardware video decoding, video output at 1080P.
Ethernet Port

I am really liking this device. It runs various Linux based distros. I am dual booting Raspbian (Debian based) and OpenELEC as a media center boot.

OpenELEC plays my video files nicely. Also the Add-ons play a lot of web based content as well.

I used OpenElec on my Pi for a while on my secondary TV. I've since replaced it with a $19 FireTV stick running a straight android distro of Kodi - a more ergonomically satisfying solution.

I'm now dreaming up projects for the pi, including: replacing the console on my treadmill, or transforming my ailing clock radio into an internet radio. These can safely remain on my to-do list ad infinitum! :)

Battery or solar powered portable media server. :) The power consumption draw of the Pi2 is low enough although Model A might be easier for solar. :)
