Air & Space Museum

Thought you might enjoy some photos from today's event. Here are some shots of the museum entrance, main building and a beautiful sculpture by John Safer named "Ascent"

And finally, pictures of the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar where Discovery will be housed. One photo is from the outside of the building and the other is from in the museum. The Blackbird sits right outside the main entrance.

Enterprise has been on display there since 2003 and will be moved to the Intrepid Sea Air and Space museum in New York on April 23rd.

Thanks. I thought there was nothing visible at the air and space museum, but now I know better.

I'll bet you thought there was a sign on the museum door like this:

Thanks for sharing! I haven't been to the new annex and it's definitely on the list to see when I'm back east sometime. Actually, I haven't been to the "old" Air & Space downtown in more than 15 years so it's probably worth a trip as well.

Thanks for sharing your pictures! I really enjoyed the museum when I visited a number of years ago. Hope to get there again one day.

Thanks for the pictures!

I haven't been to either museum for several years (Dulles is about an hour away) but it's definitely on my list of places to revisit. I did go there during the first week it opened. DW's uncle, retired from NSA, worked with much of the data brought back by the SR-71. During a visit here from Oregon he was hoping to have the chance to go to the then-new museum to see it. When it became clear that DW's aunt and her were going to spend the day chatting I asked him if he'd be interested in seeing it. His response was "I was hoping you'd suggest that!" so that worked out well.

I could spend a week camping out at either Air & Space museum.

Those are great shots Purron, thank you. I guess this needs to be added to my list of places to visit.

I am more impressed with the SR-71 Blackbird.

I haven't been to Air&Space for a couple of decades, but it is my favorite aviation museum. One of the docent at the Pacific Aviation Museum, where I sometimes volunteer, was formerly a docent at Air&Space and he said the training is very extensive.

I can tell the guy has encyclopedic knowledge of aviation. I think if you visit there you would be well served to get a tour if you can .
