Well, it's official, I'm not a grinch.
A couple days before the big party, my daughter was excited and talking about it. She said, "and i'm going to get a lot of presents!" I said, well, actually, we're exchanging books and you will get a few presents (aside from what she already got from family)... she was a bit sad. But I asked her if she wanted the presents or the party - she wanted the party.
The party was a hit! We did a couple crafty activities, had the jumper out and kids generally ran around and had fun together. Lots of food for everyone...my sis (the hollywood make up artist - i told them she does runway models and 5 year olds) put sparkles on their face, they were all very happy.
She got about 3 gifts from some of the parents who couldn't believe we only wanted books and every kid left with a new book (several asked me before hand if i seriously didn't want any presents...), their craft projects and sparkly cheeks. One of the presents was her 4th care bear.
Afterward, I asked my daughter if she missed having lots of presents and she very excitedly said no! She had a ton of fun at the party and her cousin chimed in, the "fun" was the present! woo hoo!
If i think of something clever to say, i'll put it here...
