Geckos: (Don't know if I posted this before...if I did, my apologies)
In Riyadh we had quite a few geckos around, and we'd laugh at the cats when they, (thought they'd), caught one........first thing, the gecko drops its tail.....the cat has one paw on the body and the other on the tail......the gecko doesn't move, but the tail twitches...cat goes "Ha" and whips both paws over to the tail......gecko leaves.

Yesterday was a sad day for me. For most of the summer at Woodhaven, I had two pair of ruby throated hummingbirds at my feeders. During the past two weeks that number swelled to perhaps 12, though counting hummingbirds is a chancy affair.
A literal fireworks display at the feeders, with infighting, and dogfights and chases that went on all day, into the early evening.
Then...
Two days ago... nothing.
These little dynamos are on their long journey to Texas or Chile or wherever they winter.  [/IMG]

This is Bianca, our German Shepard Dog. She's a rescue dog. This was the first time she ever saw snow. She kept trying to eat it... Yes, it does snow in Atlanta...the "big" storm in 2010.

Bianca has issues with other dogs, but she does like cats. Go figure. Her and Molly get along the best. Molly was raised with our Chow, so she has always gotten along with dogs.

DH put the garbage out on our back deck last night. It's 25 feet up, so you'd think no little critters would get into it....right? Well, think again. This little guy is obviously a very good climber. And stinkin' cute, too. Look at that guilty expression!

Raccoons regularly make nocturnal raids on our trash can, which sits outside next to the garage. They know exactly how to knock it over and pry the lid off. I really don't mind. I just pick it up and put the stuff back in the next morning.

I was just joking and am sure you don't have an army of raccoons in your backyard.
Just be careful with them Gumby and make sure any pets in your household don't come in contact with them. As you know, I volunteer at the animal shelter and often have contact with animal control officers in our community. Raccoons can carry rabies and account for many cases in our area. My brother adopted a baby raccoon for awhile. He found him alone when my brother was fishing. He was really cute until he grew up, then he was large and scary. My brother had to take him to some wildlife specialists who help animals adapt to living in the wild.
