Another car thread...

All you car nuts and engine-nears, have you seen this custom VW?

My favorite quote: "Air for the jet enters the car through the two side windows and the sunroof. It's a little windy inside but not unbearable."

Re: Another car thread...

Two things:
1. I wouldn't want that engine so close to my head

2. I don't think he actually uses that jet engine. He still has the stock tires on the thing

I would like to see a video of it running down the street on the jet engine.

Hope that jet engine welded/bolted in really well. Imagine if the jet popped loose and flew through the driver's seat. "Ouch" is an understatement.

I'm guessing his mileage leaves a little to be desired.

That reminds me of the JATO urban legend...

http://www.snopes.com/autos/dream/jato.asp

Apparently Dodge was doing this back in 1957.

Our 13-year-old daughter, Queen of Hot Trends That Parents Won't Give Her Money For, Not Even A GPS Cell Phone, informs me that the car is not a chick magnet.

Sorry, guys.

Re: Another car thread...

Mythbusters made the JATO car work pretty well...67 chevy impala with three rockets strapped to it and a remote control steering wheel thingy. IIRC it hit 350mph before the wheels came off.

Re: Another car thread...

I'm just suprised they managed to get the thing to fly straight. If the mounting of that sucker is just a little bit off, wouldn't the horizontal sheer send the car flipping end over end, tear it apart? Come to think of it, I'm not riding in that bug either!
