May I suggest "Readability"? The newest version for desktop has a great feature that allows a right click on almost any article to open a very readable page, without ads or other popups and garbage. (Used to have to click on a link and select read now or later, then wait for conversion). Now it's almost instantaneous. I have become spoiled, as now I can select font, size and width of the article on a plain page... either in the same or in a new tab. Have become so spoiled, I no longer stay on the page that I linked to, but read articles much in the same fashion as in Kindle.
I think it's available across browsers for desktops, laptops and tablets. My guess is that Readability may not be welcomed by many websites that are heavy with ads.
Though it's free, I think it might be the first app that I would ever buy... it's that good.
So, that's my recommendation for starters... what say you?
