GWB and Clinton haven't had their 50th reunions yet. GHWB went to an all-boys school. Reagan's 50th reunion would have been around 1979 or so, just before he was president, and he was probably still pretty sharp at the time (though after 50 years, forgetting names would not be surprising in any case). Your mother would have been around 39 when you were born (you're in your mid-50s, right?). Possible.
But I'm going to guess Carter, who graduated from high school in 1942, and which would put your mother's age in her 20s when you were born.
Am I close?

Names? I have trouble recognizing faces and it's only been 20+ years! (And 100+lb in some cases...)*

Re: Are You Kinda Famous Or Know Someone Who Is
I know Jim Myers. *Who is Jim Myers you ask? *Some of you, especially the guys, know him much better by another name. *He is totally a down to earth and smart guy, unlike his character was on TV.
I am also a distant cousin of Valerie Bertinelli, but have never met her.
I know some other famous people (some in sports, some in the press, some in politics, some major business owners) very well through my work, but because of privacy issues, I can't divulge their names in case my incognito status changes. *Too many people here have good long-term memories. *
I know some of these famous people lurk here, so if I mention their names it would be a dead giveaway.

Re: Are You Kinda Famous Or Know Someone Who Is
I'm not famous.
But I did teach Jane Goodall something about rodeos once. Had a half hour chat with Diane Sawyer -- much prettier in person and a lovely lady as well. My second cousin and I buried a two time Nobel prize winner in the sand -- very nice guy.

Re: Are You Kinda Famous Or Know Someone Who Is
In 1984 I met James Carville at the YMCA in Austin, TX. We were both runners. As I remember he kept to himself and was in town running a Texas senate campaign. A few years later he hit the big time as did his employer soon to become Slick Willie. It turns out that my FIL went to school with his dad at LSU.

Re: Are You Kinda Famous Or Know Someone Who Is
I met a bunch of famous peeps during law school. John Edwards (Kerry's VP candidate). The late Paul Wellstone (Senator from Minnesota - liberal as hell but very passionate about his causes, nice guy too). Spent 20 minutes chatting w/ Ann Coulter (uber-conservative talking head - vapid). Spent 20 minutes chatting w/ Ben Stein (smart guy, interesting career path, down to earth). State and federal Supreme Ct. Justices, local politicians like Mayor, Attorney General, gov, lt. gov., etc at law school and while working in city and state legal depts.
But I don't really "know" anyone famous. Yet. There's a bunch of folks from my High School that may end up being a major band. And potentially some Bill Gates types (brains). Political aspirations with actions to back em up. A lot of them are still young (~25-26), so they aren't well known yet.
But I hear my old buddies on the radio all the time now (I used to manage their band and produce their shows back in the high school days). The rest of the folks are still pursuing their PhD's at the ivy leagues or Big Name U (rhodes or marshall scholars aplenty).
My guess is 10-20 years out, there will be a famous person or two.

Oh, yeah.
I once had the opportunity to run over Bill Gates. Didn't. Regretted it ever since.

Re: Are You Kinda Famous Or Know Someone Who Is
My brushes with fame are more the 6 degrees of separation variety...
The guy who lives across the street is a former major league baseball player and former hitting coach of the Philadelphia Phillies. But I've never done more than wave greetings at him.
My sister-in-law went on a date with Jake Plummer (QB of Denver) once in college. He was apparently not a good date.
My wife went to high school with The Rock. He was a year or two ahead of her and she never really interacted with him.
My wife's great-grandfather was one of the primary generals in WWII. I never met him, though.
Pretty lame list.

I think he just feels along the curb with his tire for the two blocks to his rather nondescript house. I think JoePa lives below his means.

Re: Are You Kinda Famous Or Know Someone Who Is
I've met several famous people but, I really didn't care and most seemed normal.
One thing to remember is the addage "Treat princes like paupers and paupers like kings." It works.
Bryant Gumble - played cards with him in early 80s - I lost $100 - I was making about 25K at the time.
Tom Schnider - the talk show host in the 70s host of the Tommorrow Show
Niel Pert - the drummer for Rush in the 80s
Prince Albert of Monoco - 80s only said hello
John Belushi in the early 80s in the 21 club - I was told I spoke with him for awhile but I was too drunk to remember it - someone told me about it.
Vin Scully the announcer - work - nice guy
Bob Coastas the announcer - work - nice guy
Lee Trevino - the announcer - work - nice guy
Frank Shorter - the runner - work
I'm sure there were others but, you know they are just like us.
As a matter of fact I've heard more interesting life stories from "ordanary" people.
