Artificial Intelligence - potential threat?

It seems that Elon Musk is raising some questions regarding how human beings develop and control very advanced forms of artificial intelligence. He is not the first. Stephen Hawking has done the same. Apparently, Google has set up an ethics board to look at it's development of AI. Is that good enough?

A lot of people are getting nervous about this, and asking where Susan Calvin is hiding.

With our luck, she'll never turn up and our "Three Laws" will be written by a committee.

I'm more afraid of Google dominating than a robot uprising.

I'd be more afraid of Microsoft. Their answer to everything is reboot.

My computer says "Restart".

I'm like, "didn't I just start this thing 10 minutes ago?".

Good news, everyone! The interwebs are already hard at work on the problem.

Sounds like a good book but not available at my library yet. I suspect the possibility of problems is significant long term but I am not holding my breath that we will see any real threat in my lifetime. Maybe we will just end up uploading our brain patterns to super-intelligent neural nets and transition to a new synthetic life form like Kurzweil theorizes.
