Yeah, no 40-50% off deals around these days. I was happy to find a "previously ordered new" low-end machine on the outlet priced 15% less than the best deal I could find on new one with the same configuration. Ordered it Thursday and got it Monday.

Sounds good. I do love the quick delivery from the outlet.

Also, check fatwallet for various coupon-based deals like this one:

FLAMING HOT DELL SB VOSTRO 1500 or 1400 T5270 120GB DVD+-RW $513.80AC

Wow! How many can I get for that price? DD just started college and went thru TWO Dell Inspirons before giving up and switching to Sony Viao(sp), so we have two Dell Inspirons in the refurb cycle. Dell customer service sucks big time. Poor kid (high anxiety level) is already behind in her freshman year due to Dell screw-ups. Gonna be holding grudge against Dell for awhile.........

Thats some bad luck Jazz. I've had a bunch of problems with Dells ordering cycle on new machines thats had me cursing them plenty, but so far no product quality issues.

I had ordered a machine that arrived with the wrong video card. Unfortunately Dell was no longer running the great price promotion I had taken advantage of and couldnt/wouldnt fix the problem. I was told to return and rebuy the "correct" machine and wait another 3 weeks for the new one to be built. I bought another brand.

On another occasion, they quoted me a 3 week build time for a desktop. After six weeks, I gave up and bought something else.

Another benefit to buying from the outlet...

Just got off the customer service line. They finally posted the credit yesterday(three weeks after I mailed unit back), but Im stuck with 60 days interest they will not refund. When they asked "Is there anything else we can do for you?" I asked for one reason why I would ever consider purchase of a Dell in the future....no reply. I figured maybe they would at least offer an inexpensive gift card or discount on something I don't want.....awful, just awful. I was surprised they answered the phone, but anything non-routine requires a call 7am-7pm, even though everything seems to be run from abroad...sorry for the rant. Im done.

Want an Acer?

FWIW Walmart is starting their Christmas shopping season early. This Friday (November 2), they will be selling an Acer 14" 1 GB ram laptop for $348 -- they haven't released any details, but I just saw it on Black Friday Ads at Black-Friday.net (site that tracks all the special door-opener sales offered the Friday after Thanksgiving, aka "Black Friday".)

Compusa has a 15.4" acer laptop for sale for $299 tomorrow and saturday only. Not much of a machine, celeron M with 512MB ram 80gb hard drive and vista basic. Good enough for email/surfing and some other basic stuff.

My experience with these special deals is that people go buy them today and then take them back for a price match tomorrow when the sale is in effect, and none will be available by door opening on friday.
