Anyone else watch Big Love on HBO?

We watched last night - started with Bill Paxton leaving one house in the morning and going into the next door house at night.
Turned out to be a cute show about a Mormon "extended family" :D

I like it! I wanted to maybe try it, but then I thought about all the responsibilities a husband in that situation has!

Well, that certainly solves the "two women under one roof" problem.

How come all the polygamy focus is on one guy with a bunch of women? Why isn't there a story about one woman married to a bunch of guys?

Never mind-- I think I just answered my own question.

It turns out Bill has 3 wives(and kids) in 3 houses together - backyards joined - the wives sit down each month and schedule which day Bill has with each of them - turns out Bill needs to get a viagra prescription in order to keep up.
As you can imagine Bill has invested quite a bit of their assets in real estate. I don't know if he'll be able to retire early except to bed every night.

I sure hope Bill isn't expecting this show to generate viewer sympathy for his plight. In fact the offers of assistance might just be overwhelming...

Bill is also busy expanding his chain of hardware stores.
But there is Harry Dean Stanton as a Tony Soprano type Mormon deacon/bishop who staked him for the original store and wants a cut of the newer stores revenue...
The families appear at the start to be the kind you'd want to grow up in or raise kids....who wouldn't want to have 3 mommies? :D

My father had two families, and he wasen't even Mormon.  Of course, he and my mother divorced, when she found out about it...  :)

No Dan you don't get it,

The idea is that one or two of the wives stay home with the kids and the rest work!

So the more wives the greater the income. You just have to keep them all happy ;)

I gets it! and Bill sure does...

Ai yai yai... like you're going to have more than one guy hanging around when you're pregnant/nursing? Some ladies find that even the one isn't willing to hang around.. :(

Have no opportunity to see the show, but d'ya think it's paving the way for mainstream "polygamy acceptance"? Like "Will & Grace" for Mormons? (Laying the groundwork for Mitt Romney in '08?) ;)

Forgot about ERing, his life expectancy will probably be shortened by a factor of 3. :D

It will be interesting to see where the series takes this whole concept. The truth of these relationships are frequently much different than that shown on TV. We see stories about under age girls being forced into marriage all the time around here as well as the emotional abuse that occurs to create a state of fear in these marriages to prevent the wives from running away.

Personally, one wife is plenty for me. :D

His butt was nice. But they also showed him in his tighty whiteys and I cringed.

Almost naked men on TV should be in boxers.

Why in the world is the default color white?

if you put some colored clothes in with the whites, and bleach, then they arent.

Gets you out of laundry duty for a while.

So does putting your wifes pink fuzzy slippers in with her black work pants.

This is a daily news item here. Polygamy is alive and well. Jeffs is a nut case and there are many many of them in this part of the country. There are factions of the "church" in many parts of UT, AZ, CO, ID, NV and NM and have been for decades. They practice what they believe and shun those that don't. Racism is real and deep seated. It the "church" it is just spoken more in whispers than out loud anymore. Politics keep a lot of this stuff just below the radar. Polygamy may be a Federal crime but it is not enforced here unless there is a pretty visible and immoral issue associated with it like underage girls or rampant abuse.

Anybody that has lived here for a while can tell you where "they" live. There are various "compounds" in the area and especially further out of the city that are well known yet ignored. With most of the law enforcement, government employees, business owners, media outlets and other major groups filled with individuals from the "prevalent religion" it is no suprise that this place is much like Vatican City. Same concept; different religion.

Who in their right mind would want more than one wife anyway? :D

Heck yes, if several working wives would voluntarily and lovingly support my lavish ER day and night lifestyle. ;)

As Uncle Jed used to say: "Someday I'm gonna have to have a loooong talk with that boy..." :D
