BJs Club surprise $25 membership discount

Our BJs club membership was due for renewal ($50) so I called to ask for the usual $10 discount for renewing members.

The rep paused and said, "Today I can offer you...$25 off your one-year renewal." So we got a year for $25.

It was quite a surprise. I wonder if the company is having trouble recruiting?

I think they knew you were a tough negotiator, and gave you the full Monte up front. Along the same lines, i had a coworker apply for a job as a senior investigator for a state job, it paid i think 80k, the boss giving the interview said to my friend "how about i offer you the assistant director job , it pays 102k". My friend stood up and said"Sir you drive a hard bargain , but ill take it". They way my luck runs i would have called for the 10 dollar discount and would have been hung up on, oh the job interview, one look at me and i would have been told sorry we filled the position already lol.

Maybe they are trying to capitalize on Costco's INCREASE by making an offer that is hard to refuse? For $25, I may re-join

I had a BJ's membership a while back, but didn't go enough.

Just as another data point, they keep sending me post cards: $25 for 12 months. I realize that's the new member deal, not the re-up thing. It would be a nice surprise if BJ's was breaking the mold and giving their current, loyal, customers at least as good of a deal as some fickle customer, like me.

I think our membership expires in December. I'd love to hear more about how to get this $25 deal, but it won't help if it's a "limited time offer."

We don't shop in the store much, but save a ton of money on fuel. More than enough to pay for the membership.

They allow two names on the membership, so my DW and MIL each have a card. So I suppose you can say we already get it at half price.

Can't help there, as I only said "Yes" without questioning the unexpected offer!

At Sam's , one person buys the membership and the other is a family member.
This means when a special is on new memberships, the non-member can buy it and the previous member becomes the family member.

So you might want to try the flip flop membership routine on new member deals.

Our BJs doesn't even sell gas. We got a discount for Farm Bureau membership (acquired for Nationwide Insurance discount). I think it was 35 bucks for 13 months.
