blue angel down

living here in south florida, i've had the opportunity to enjoy the navy's blue angels a number of times at our annual air & sea show along fort lauderdale beach. (happens they do a lot of their turns right over my house--sometimes we just watch from the roof.) these pilots & those machines are amazing. even though i'm a peacenik at heart & mostly in politics, i remember one of the first times i watched them perform, thinking to myself that--in a world of sides--i sure was glad they're on ours.

instead of the blue angels, this year's national salute features the u.s. air force thunderbirds. no doubt, with the so sad, recent loss of 32-year-old lt. cmdr. kevin davis, fort lauderdale, always ready for a party, will welcome these pilots with great warmth & good cheer.
