Burning Man 2010
Anyone going? This will be our third time. Kind of interesting answer to 'what do you do all day?' Ah, life after FIRE is good

I wanted to go this year, but a commitment to a friend interfered. I expect to try next year.

It is on the bucket list, but no. Please post your pictures when you get back! We can live vicariously through you!

Walking around as unclothed as possible in the August desert sun, spending $$ to arrive at a destination where the participants pretend that a barter economy can function among strangers, imbibing a wide variety of reputedly illicit substances...
... reminds me of "All y'alls are from Ha-why-uh, an' yer vacationin' hee-yer?" I think I'll wait for the video.
I know one woman who's avoiding Burning Man specifically because of an exhibitionist workplace acquaintance who's been flaunting his presence there for a number of years. She says the last thing she wants on her mind the other 364 days a year is the possibility of having his au naturel image seared into her retinas.

You are so right, Nords. As usual, I'll be heading to Ocean Beach where it all began. That is, after this heat wave ends.

Kind of my thought too. There's a new rock opera about it now. Wonder how many venues would actually allow it (au natural and all).

Pretty good shot, humor is definitely appropriate. It can get really hot & dusty. Mostly clothes are on, too much sun otherwise & too cool at night, but they are not required. Some of the people without them have really interesting body paint/designs. The costumes & home made clothes are part of the rich art environment. There are reputed to be a lot of substances available but mostly I hang out with the guy who brings (no kidding) 800 gallons of homemade beer & wine. Good stuff too. The only point I think missed is that it is not a barter economy, it is a gift economy. Its this aspect that really hits a deep place in my neanderthal economic brain. I didn't believe it the first time so I had to go back and really see that it works that way. Everything is free, given away, not even traded. Don't know how long that would last in the 'real world' but its an amazing experience for me.
