If you're buying shorts at Menards, TJ Maxx or Costco....you're not buying anything that is in fashion.

That's what the pockets in the back of the cycling jersey are for

In addition for me throw in facial tissue for an occasional old man allergy sneeze, carmex, and my readers. If I get any older I may need to find shorts that hang past my shins that have 8 pockets in them.

I have some cargo shorts, but do not wear them that often... I wear more gym type shorts more often... or some that are 'dress' shorts... only one pocket per side...

I have an tote bag designed to hold an iPad sized tablet. It is dark gray and black and has a nice masculine look to it. Mostly it holds extras I need while walking about a city for the day. Rarely does it actually hold a tablet.

Chuck, since you purposely chose to write the word "masculine" in your post, I am assuming you are doing your darnedest to avoid succumbing to ever wearing a "fanny pack" ?

European pickpockets love fanny packs on tourists.

The locals use fanny pack as well.

Most people have gotten wise and wear their backpacks and fanny packs in the front.

I use a messenger back, never had any problems except once, on a vaporetto, some guy standing next to me tried to reach into one of the many pockets.

He chose a weird pocket though, instead of the main compartment, he reached into a zippered pocket that had a checkbook. I carry my wallet in my fanny pack worn at the side for easy access and visibility.

Anyways, if you go any time between late April and early October, most people including the locals are dressing for comfort, not style (unless they're going to work and need to dress up).

For travel I wear a wrist wallet and a little flat bag on a lanyard round my neck. The flat bag can hide under a shirt. Husband wears one too.

I have a fanny pack but never wear it. It makes you look as if you have extra hips, and don't care.

Not that I would consider them stylish but I saw this article on stylish fanny packs:

Fanny pack in Texas means you are probably carrying heat.

Hey, if ladies don't like their men to wear cargo shorts, maybe the men should throw out the ladies purses. Maybe then they could understand the utility of cargo shorts for men. My almost daily attire in temperatures 65 degrees and above are shorts and tee shirts. Most of my shorts are cargo shorts. Fortunately DW seems to like them on me. Probably because I have sexy legs.

I wear a fanny pack when I walk my dog, but it is to hold dog related stuff - pepper spray, poop bags, flexible water dish and water. Of course, if some azzhat wants to think I'm packing heat, that is OK, too.

Here in the hellish southwest, I wear Bermuda shorts nearly year round. No cargo shorts though, as I want mine just above the knees.
