Charlie--I'll try to give up on science too. This is nice.

Side note: Bob_Smith was notably absent before the software changeover as was Hyperborea. The former had no apparent motivation to leave.

There is no simple solution to the politics problem. If there were then government would be a lot easier to run and be more efficient.

The problems here are a result of growing popularity. A lot of this seemed to start back with the election, but getting politics and religion here was unavoidable as the board grew.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the policy here is to let these things blow over on their own. Moderation can cut spam and (near-) universally offensive posts, but trying to find where to draw the line in political discussions will probably drive all us moderators off in a huff.

Actually there have been several rows, but I also see a lot of bait out there that's not being taken. This is a fair amount of restraint being shown here, too.

I am also on the far side of politics from Charlie, but the financial insights are great. Hope he sticks around.

Re: Charlie says Adiós

I like the discussions here. Including the religious and political. I don’t take offence if someone has a different opinion than I do. The tolerance on this board of people with different ideas is one of the reasons I am here. I don’t think we should squelch people who think differently and I see no reason to bail out if someone disagrees with me. The interaction of many people with their own experiences and knowledge is what makes this board different. So I would say to Charley if you can’t tolerate people having different views I guess this isn’t the place for you. I would hope that you would stay and contribute your opinions and grow a thicker skin. I myself have no solutions for saving the world, or know the “right way to live”. Just interested in hearing what my fellow travelers on the Journey think.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.
