child seats

OK, strange question for a financial site, but here goes:

Is the best/safest method of installing a child seat via the LATCH hooks, or the seatbelt?

I've been using LATCH. I don't think I've read anything that says which is preferable...

Re: child seats

As long as you have those lockable seatbelts (you know, the kind that click when they retract and then can't be unwound once tight), they're both pretty much equivalent.* * Both are well anchored on the car end, and both have good holding power on the child seat.* * I use the LATCH when available, just because it's easier to get a tight fit with the car.

In any case, check your child seat for recalls here.* * And in our town, some local safety experts have free inspections they'll do for you to ensure you're installing the seat correctly.
