COBRA

As I mentioned, my DH retired three weeks ago from a government agency. We filled out a ton of paperwork! Medical to be a continuation. We received our medical cards in the mail last week, and were told our first medical premium will be mailed to us on November 20th. When my DH receives his first pension check in December, we call the benefits office and and tell them to start automatically deducting the medical premium from the pension check. Yesterday, we received a COBRA notification in the mail. Has anyone experienced this with their government retirement? I am trying to find out if we have to fill out the COBRA papers and mail back or are we covered already through the other paperwork. No one seems to have an answer!!! I did read retirement is a triggering event for Cobra.
Help!!!
