IMO a perfect record does not represent 'perfection'.... it just means they have not played someone who is better... I think that ends with their next game... and I would give 2 to 1 odds they cannot win the next two....

FSU maybe undefeated, but they won ugly all year. All the big games (Ga Tech) were won by three points or less. I think Ohio State should have beat out TCU and the top four were the best teams. I would love to see an Alabama vs Oregon National Championship game. Ducks have been spoiling for that match up for years. BTW, Roll Tide!

True, but it is a lot harder to make a case that the 9th team in the seedings would win a 3 game tournament than the 5th team would win a 2 game tournament. And while #1 are knocked off by teams seeded lower than 8 all the time the chance of a team ranked lower than 8th winning 3 games over higher ranked teams is very low.

+1

If we had an 8 team playoff system, there would be controversy generated over who ended up #9. If we had a 16 team playoff system, there would be controversy generated over who ended up #17...

Controversy is what sells newspapers, generates web hits and tweets, gets TV show viewers and radio listeners, and generates forum posts.

True, because ardent fans of the team that just misses the playoffs will be upset, but the reality is that it is very unlikely that #8 or #9 would prevail in a 3 game single elimination tournament and remote that #16 or #17 would win a 4 game single elimination tournament but #4 or #5 winning a 2 game single elimination is quite possible IMO.

IOW, I look at it as reducing the possibility that the best team in the nation doesn't get into the playoff which is why I favor an 8 team tournament.

Bingo. TCU and SMU have a legit beef since they may be as good as any team that made it. If it were an 8 team playoff, Ole Miss at #9 and 3 losses would not get my sympathy since they clearly aren't the best.

As far as FSU goes, I have not been impressed by them but I don't see how you leave an unbeaten major conference team out. Someone needs to prove they are better than them.

"SMU" can only dream of being part of this group. Obviously you meant Baylor.

Pay the man!

Unfortunately, this playoff system creates a financial interest for conferences getting one of their teams into the playoff. And since conference revenues are split (roughly) equally between its teams, the individual teams have an incentive too. IIUC Wisc's lopsided loss (getting OSU in) resulted in significantly more $$ in the Badgers' pocket.

Quite a system they've devised for this (ahem) "amateur" sport.

Many feel Notre Dame already did, just not better than FSU plus the Zebras

Way, way too obvious of a pick. They can complain about how rarely it is called, but ND got away with it in the first half, and it has been called a few times this year. When your other receivers are clearly blocking and not looking to get free for a pass it is a pick and should be called whether it is the first quarter or final minute. And I say this as someone who had a great experience at an ND home game and wanted ND to win over FSU.

Illegal plays age generally not allowed in NCAA games.

Why does the NCAA care about revealing the age of an illegal play?

ND vs FSU controversial call video. Personally, I think the official got it wrong.

TCU grad here, so maybe not objective.

This is about MONEY! Two small church supported school didn't have chance. The committee should be ashamed to show their face.

Now so you don't confuse, it's not the final ranking but the previous week! A school should not win their final game by over 50 points and drop from third to sixth! No excuse they just screwed up! TCU should have never been 3rd.

In my opinion, Baylor belonged in the final four. The Texans tried a new quarter back, and he won. Next week a loss. Ohio State goes to the top four with a one game QB! But hey, it's Ohio State!

Heisman looks well deserved today. The Ducks are really taking them out to the woodshed.

Looks like Alabama will have their hands full. Yes, I am assuming they beat Ohio State.
