If anyone knows where to get some good smoked salmon, I'm interested and would appreciate being given a lead on some.
I love the New Braunfels Smokehouse; I stop there every time I am in the area.

Best jerky I've ever tasted is from a little place near Olympia, Washington. It's called
Stewart's Meat Market
and their teriyaki beef jerky is simply to die for.

Whenever I visit my friends in Olympia or go to Seattle for any reason, I always plan a side trip to Yelm. Everything else they carry is great, too.

Interesting links. I thought I was bad buying a few one pound packs of beef or turkey Jerky a month at Costco

Orchid, I have ordered the Scottish Smoked salmon from the Mackenzie Ltd. catalogue both for myself and as gifts. I really like it...a nice mild flavor and not too salty. I have also gotten good smoked salmon from Wegman's grocery store(alas none near me in the Pittsburgh area). I don't know if all Wegman's have a kosher fish counter where they hand slice the fish but the one in the Fair Lakes section of Fairfax, VA does, and I have bought it there when in the area visiting friends.

I love smoked fish. I have eaten it in from a number of places in the US. None seemed as good at what I got close to home. Martha Stewart agrees: Two Harbors Restaurant Rated Best Smoked Fish Spot In America | Northland's NewsCenter: News, Weather, Sports | NBC, CBS, MyNetworkTV, and The CW for Duluth MN / Superior WI | Local News

Actually, I (and almost everyone else I know) prefer the hole in the wall down the road: Russ Kendall's Smoke House - Knife River, MN

Pure bliss food. Smoked Herring is my current favorite. Once in a while sugar cured trout or salmon.

I just ordered some salmon and also some halibut from them.

I grew up next to the Atlantic Ocean, and we ate the seafood we caught ourselves nearly as often as the meat we bought at the store.

Now that I'm in the Midwest, I have to actively seek out great fish. It's expensive, but boy, is it worth it!

Oh, man, smoky garlic Kielbasa from NY! My youth was not wasted in NY. I am happier here than there but how I miss the food!

I miss the food, too. I also consider NJ to be a culinary hot spot. Some really good victuals there. I have a sister-in-law in Moorestown, but we don't eat there...we go to more ethnic areas nearby or some really great place in a strip mall.

I recently watched "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network. One of the spots, with Michael Symon, featured beef jerky from this place

Czuchraj Meats
West Side Market 1979 W. 25th St. #B10
Cleveland, OH 44113
(216) 696-7083
www.jandjmeats.com

My mouth was watering watching the show.
