The Foreign Legion version I recall did not involve the Commander but went along the line, rather than becoming exceptionally "friendly" with the camel, most folks rode it into the oasis over the hill. (where there were wimmen)

The playboy version - you ride the camel to go get women. The barbershop version - welllll that version was sightly different.
