Time for her parents to quickly appropriate some sort of generic nickname for her. I am thinking she could be called something like "Buffy", "Muffy", "Dixie", "Daisy", "Penny", "Kiki", "Sunshine", or whatever. Or, maybe she has a usable middle name. If she is still a baby, or if she doesn't care, then they could have her name legally changed to something less politically charged, but preferably not "Da'esh".
She is almost two now and the parents are in a quandary--they don't want to overreact but.... I don't believe she has a middle name so that's out. Maybe they can call her Isis sort of reversed as in Cici for awhile. Damn terrorists ruin everything!

For sure! I think that "Isis" is a beautiful and fascinating name for a little girl, or was until all this terrorist cr*p came up and appropriated the name.

Cici sounds like a great solution!

Da'esh is just "Dash" pronounced with a southern drawl...

In which case we could use another southernism, "Bless their hearts"...

Dash man, I have been thinking of you all through this thread and almost posted mentioning your username! I don't speak with a conventional ("TV type", Georgia/Alabama) Southern accent so to me, Da'esh and Dash sound completely different. Two syllables versus one.

Hey, why not go all the way, "Bless their itty-bitty li'l ol' cotton-pickin' hearts, y'all"....

Local TV news anchor Isis Romero pronounces her first name "Eee-sis."

Sadly, I understand that better. For Daesh, it's all about intimidation and control. But what do ancient stones have to do with either of those aims?

I suppose it just has to do with destroying anything the 'others' hold dear. Whether it is their families, or their artwork and culture. Sad all the way around.

+1.

I think destroying what others hold dear is definitely the case. Similar to thugs who break into a home and then purposely trash the place (family photos, for example).

Looks like the tragedy in Paris will put the conversation of security vs personal privacy back in the forefront as the big problem as to why the authorities didn't know the attack would happen is current communication apps (Whatsapp and others) that are so secure that even the governments can't monitor (described as "going dark").

I heard (somewhere...?) that there was enough chatter to suspect an attack was imminent, but apparently the information wasn't specific enough...

I saw on the news that what Daesh would do is say if someone contacted them through Facebook or Twitter, they then switch over the non crackable, encrypted apps. Thus, the ones trying to monitor would only get the initial communication before going dark.

As far as names go, well, there are a lot of people in the world named Adolf, Joseph, Benito and Benedict. It's not good to let a few bad apples spoil the whole batch. Just don't name your kid Caligula.

It is time to be grateful for the British, who removed many of the nicest antiquities (without permission) and stored them in the British Museum where we can still go see them....

Plus, consider carefully when you name your company - and pick a ticker symbol: Isis Pharmaceuticals (ISIS)
