Not a steal, but its a deal you can actually get without showing up at 6am to bestbuy and slugging it out with 800 fatwallet members, or hanging around the dell outlet for 3 days waiting for the right deal.

Dell small business is offering a 1.86GHz Core duo (not the lesser dual-core), 1GB ram, 120GB hard drive, ATI X1400 video, dvd burner, and either xp home or vista basic...$619 plus tax.

The extended warranty options are pretty reasonable...I think it was under a hundred bucks to get 2 years on-site service instead of the 1 year mail-in.

Go to dell, small business section, and use e-value codes:

11103-bnphe2h for vista basic or
11103-bnphe2x for xp home

Unless you're doing heavy first person shooters, major video processing, or some other heavy graphics/cpu based apps...these are pretty good specs at a pretty good price.

Good tip. I bought one of these a year ago when they had a one day sale for about the same price. Been very happy with it. Also got the extended warranty and have used it a couple of times, I think it's worth it.

For a few dollars more, a nice entry level Latitude system for $649

Latitudes are business grade machines...nice keyboards, non wide screen displays, solid metal internal frames...pretty tough machines. You'll also likely get a US based tech support person buying a latitude through the small business store, for what thats worth.

No fancy graphics chip like the other deal, which sold out already. Other than that, pretty solid machine for the money. Usually its tough to get a well configured latitude for this price.

Look into this HP Pavillion dv 2000. 14.1 screen battery life is about 3hrs, does everything needed these days. Around 700.

The e-value code has expired. Do you know any other good deals or do you have another e-value code?

The 6400 expired due to overpurchase...they were having delivery dates out to late july just before they gave it the hook.

The latitude d520 mentioned above for 649 is a very good deal unless you want to do some gaming or run vistas 'aero' feature, in which case the integrated graphics wont cut it. For regular business stuff, microsoft office, browsing and email, and basic multimedia like watching a few movies...its pretty good. Far more solid of a design than the inspiron...or most consumer laptops for that matter. The screen is a "square" one rather than a wide screen...which I actually prefer. Latitudes generally have terrific "thinkpad" type keyboard quality, and its rare to see a well configured one like this sell for under $800-900.
