Dell laptop wireless issues...

...I became a grandpa to preemie twins about 9 weeks ago, and find myself splitting my time between the one at home and the one still in the NICU.

Both places have unsecured wireless. ...my 3 year old Dell Inspiron laptop with Intel PROset/Wireless auto-connects first time every time to my home wireless network, but rarely connects successfully anywhere else.

When I boot up at my son's or the hospital it quickly finds available unsecured wireless networks with strong signals, and allegedly connects right away when I select one, with Excellent signal quality and 48mbps per the PROset wireless dialogue box, but I get no luck with either Firefox or IE. Both browsers give browser error messages like "unable to find server..."

My son's laptop connects just fine (he's got no password requirement at his home). My son and DIL's and other visitor's laptops also connect easily to the public network at the hospital.

any advice?

tia,

Figured it out with a bit more Googling:

Go to the Wireless Connection, Properties, General, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP),
then select “Obtain an IP address automatically”

Hope the babies are okay, CB. Glad you could get connected.
