Did Oprah really say that?

Now I would sooner eat worms and stick a fork in my eyes before watching Oprah, but I've heard a couple people mention something she and her "panel" said in yesterday's show (January 7). Apparently there was a rather distraught guest on her show who was worried that the current economic situation would make her lose her business and her home and that sort of thing, and Oprah's response was sit there and basically reassure her that things are going to be fine and that she should be grateful for what she has. At one point she allegedly said something like this woman should be thankful that she's still *breathing*.

I mean, it sounds like an uncomfortable "let them eat cake" moment if ever there was one. There is no way she or some of the others on the show could possibly relate to these feelings of helplessnesss and futility, so to even pretend they could is comical and even a bit offensive.

I wonder if Oprah has any idea how much she has lost during the last year? She seems to look fatter, so maybe she has actually gained in a way...

I don't get the fascination with Oprah. She's said a lot of dumb things over the 20+ years she has been on TV.

Probably the breathing thing was a flippant way to be funny, something she is NOT good at. Remember, she is a billionaire, so even if she is down 30% or whatever she still has more money than 99.999% of everyone in the world.........

Yes, it's true, I'm watching Oprah this week. I don't usually but after all this IS her "Best Life Ever" week and who doesn't want a piece of that! Although tomorrow's show is all about sex which could have a little too much information about our star for me .

I don't get the spirituality connection that runs through most of Oprah's theme shows, but her point to the woman who was afraid she would lose the bakery she had just opened with her life savings was about spirituality, finding something to be grateful for and not obsessing on things out of our control. The next person on the show had lost her arms and legs and the one after that had been horrifically disfigured in a car accident, and both of these people were happy despite those problems. Yay spirituality.

Today's show re finance featured Suze Orman, described as "the number one financial guru in the country." Pay off your credit cards, don't keep money in the markets you'll need in the next five years, get that 8-month emergency fund going (but only AFTER you pay off all your credit cards)--that was about it. Nothing about keeping breathing .

I've tried watching Oprah in the distant past, but she just didn't do it for me. I'm not a TV watcher, so I guess I'm very picky.
She did, however, give an excellent performance in The Color Purple, way back when.

Actually Oprah can have some good shows, you just have to be picky about which ones you watch. I never watch Suzie Orman, nor anything that features some big Hollywood star who is only on to plug their latest movie. I also skip anything book club related as I am a big enough girl to decide what I want to read.

However for me without a doubt the most fascinating shows she has are when Peter Walsh the decluttering specialist is on. When you go into some of these houses it is scary to see what people have accumulated. Without a doubt these shows are must see on my list. Afterwards I am always encouraged to go thru my closests and throw things out and return anything with tags on back to the store as my worst fear would be being eligible for one of those shows.

I would tend to give Oprah the benefit of the doubt that her response was in keeping with the point of the show but you never know - her true self could be coming out.

I heard from a friend of my cousin's uncle on my dead father's side that Oprah's success was due to devil worship and on the last Feb 29 or the one before at 2:35am while naked Oprah drank the blood of a baby while jumping a shark on a motorcycle and get this - she only gave the the waiter a 15% tip. I mean with all her money; come on girl - 20% is the minimum these days for billionaires.

What have others heard about her? There must be more.

Ed Bacon, Elizabeth Lesser and Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith with an uplifting discussion on how to live your best spiritual life.
The show offered questions from viewers via Skype and also focused on real-life spiritual teachers from previous episodes. The first viewer Tanya, whose bakery business is failing, asked the panel how she can have hope when everything around her is falling apart. Tanya's question stood out as one that is pressing for many people right now - a universal question that everyone would really like the answer to. Elizabeth Lesser pointed out how we all need to embrace change, while Rev. Beckwith explained that in a crisis we are being "called to develop qualities that we didn't have before."
The current of the show was flowing in the direction of acceptance for what is happening in your life, embracing and loving yourself because you have a right to be here, and connecting to genuine qualities of compassion, love, wisdom, grief, forgiveness - whatever you need to truly feel at this time in your life.

I do not watch Oprah but I do read her magazine . It usually has some good stories and a few articles that are perfect for plane reading . It keeps me amused when I fly . I have followed her book club until her picks got so depressing .

I think Oprah personifies the "I've been poor" childhood.

She seems like the world's unhappiest billionaire. And totally unable to slow down, let alone turn it off.

Missed Oprah but caught Patrick Swayze with Buwawa Walters. Talk about not slowing down and letting it go. He took a j*b acting in a series, does his own stunts, etc. after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Still a sweet handsome guy but.... Barbara also interviewed Whoopi Goldberg who said something like w*rking (acting) is life for actors.
