How I Leaned How to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. It occurred to me how this movie is brilliant and so relevant today. We have so many gloom and doom predictions – 2012, killer viruses, global financial meltdown, terrorism, etc, etc, etc.

Kubrick captured the paranoia of the 50s and 60s perfectly. Many of the same fear based behaviors I see now happened back in the 50s – underground bunkers selling for big bucks, buying gold, and stocking up on ammo, canned goods and water. Tin foil hats abound.

I wonder what a modern day version of Dr. Strangelove would look like.

Although prosperous, the 50's were indeed a scary time. It wasn't clear at all that we would not duke it out with the ruskies. And in the nuclear age that became all too scary.

In hindsight we were lucky that the ruskies were run by determined but cool heads, who knew well the horrors of war.

I am not so sure that is true these days.
