Drone fishing (why didn't I think of this?)

One of the best uses for a drone I have seen yet.

Looks like fun, plus fresh tuna is good eat. A drone that can lift the line plus a squid as bait is not going to be an inexpensive one.

I wonder what the rules for sea fishing are. They most likely do not address this yet.

Best use of a drone I've seen. Like NW-BOUND I'm wondering how legal the fishing is or will be.

I love sashimi.

OMG! My mind is blown. Drones are going to change everything. It's going to be crazy! And very chaotic too on the way.

And people worry there isn't new game changing technology on our doorstep.

The footage from the drone is awesome. I look forward to the videography possibilities.

The Phantom-4 drone is only $1400 and does up to 4K video!

Last week in Hawaii, we were just finished loading the car and about to leave the condo, when someone close to us in the parking lot flew a phantom drone right (low) over our heads and up over the building and out towards the beach (not visible from the parking lot). DH was miffed because the guy was breaking several FAA rules.

Brilliant!, although cheating. If that breakaway clip doesn't work, that would be a quick way to lose a drone. Personally I want a remote control spear fishing drone-sub.

Was curious so did a quick google. 8lbs lifting capacity can be bought for 2.000 usd it seems. 8lbs and up it becomes 20k+ quickly.

Or go all out and go for 220lbs:
EHang 184 Drone | Specs, Photos & Details

It think that qualifies it as a helicopter though.

+1
Not a saltwater person, but it gives humans an unfair advantage. I know fishermen look for birds and weed lines this is not the same.

Likely most states will ban this, as they certainly should. Fish and game laws are powerful in most US states.

I dunno, you could argue that a person with a $50,000 boat and sophisticated depth finder/gps has a big advantage over a surf caster such as this fellow.

The drone does make it cheaper to fish compared to buying the boat and equipment which could mean more people fishing.

Next they'll want to ban dynamite fishing.

But why not just ban all fishing from boats and then the fish will have a fair chance?

The Phantom-4 drone is only $1400 and does up to 4K video!
Phantom 3 Pro, last year's model, is about $1000 and it also does 4K video.

Phantom 3 Advanced, with a camera which only does 2.7k, is about $750.

Phantom 4 does have collision avoidance, a better gimbal. Camera is slightly better, not a lot better.

Really tempted to get one for upcoming trips but they're banned in a lot of places, like all national parks. There are videos on Youtube of people flying around Big Ben but that was a couple of years ago. You'd probably be subject to fines.

The guy at 500px said he went on a European trip, wanted to film over the central square of a little town but was worried about being stopped by the police. So he went about a half mile away and flew over the square by remote control -- Phantom 3s and above stream video to the pilot if you hook up a phone or iPad to the remote control.

Then you have to worry about taking it on flights. You need like a $200-300 bag that can fit the drone, accessories and some of your other expensive gear.

Now, some startup is working on parachutes for drones:

I think they should just create an open season on drones, maybe right before doves open in August or September.

Surf fishing was always a really nice day communing with nature- not that many bites usually, but a nice day in a lovely part of nature. A bunch of idiots flying drones dragging hooks over my head would dynamite the appeal for me.

Ha

Yup. They might even consider leaving it open year round in some parts of the country.

Are they really that much of an issue anywhere? Outside of an R/C flying site I've never seen one flying.

Here in snow country, it could fit in after snowmobiler season and before un-muffled quad rider season.
