Duck and Bird Photos

Bird/wildlife photography is a hobby of mine so I have a few. :) Some recent shots.

Recently fledged Barred Owl.

Osprey nest.

Snowy Egret

There are some ducks at the lake near our house I've known for so long if I sit down in the grass they'll crawl all over me hoping for food.

Cute ducks. But make sure they don't poop on you.

A tough little guy braving the cold to come eat at my feeder in a snowstorm.

Canada geese on the Willamette River.

I may have posted this on another thread. Anyway, a short video (MP4) of hummingbirds at our camp in Illinois, just before they were leaving for the south... maybe Texas or Mexico... frantic darting back and forth at the feeders. On another attempt at capturing the action, one of the little guys landed on my camera. They spend the whole summer around my park model, and come for breakfast right after sunrise... lunch at noon... and dinner between 5 and 6PM.
Refilling the feeder in the summer is about once in two or three weeks... In September, once every three or four days. The summer residents... about 6 at any one time, change to groups of 12 to 20 or more during fall migration.

There was a time when I was way into bird photography - not too many ducks though. Digging through the archives hear are a few of the duck/goose shots I found:

Those are some amazing pictures, Stepford.

Ha

Thanks to posters who contributed to this thread. Lots of very nice photos.

Lack of artistic skills aside, I will need better equipment than my simple pocket point-and-shoot camera to take photos as crisp as the ones I see here. However, I will continue to take snapshots. These serve as reminders of things I have seen, places that I have been. In my later years, when I lose my mobility, I will look at these fondly.

A few pictures taken along trails and in local parks (I am not a bird photographer and have actually little interest in birds):

Though I have succumbed to the bird photography disease and have humped heavy lenses around on various vacations I must admit that my wife, shooting with a compact super zoom digicam gets shots as nice or nicer than mine. It's the eye and the passion to see new things not the equipment that makes the shot.

I don't have too many duck pictures.
How about a Sharp-shinned Hawk?

This image was captured with moderately priced hand held Canon PowerShot S3 IS that I think is about ten years old.

Flying non-ducks

Well shoot, if you folks are gonna start posting those pretty non-duck photos I'll throw in some of mine too. Always liked to get birds in flight when possible:

The thread is about "Duck and Birds Photos", although I started this thread as a dedication to my friend redduck. :)

Catching birds in flight? When possible? Never with me! Perhaps that's why I like to shoot duck. They don't swim too fast.
