And this is called an egret, I think. I took this photo on Avery Island, Louisiana.

I think so, a Great Egret. Although the Great Blue Heron can be all white during the white phase it has a heavier body and usually has yellowish legs at that time. The plume is not always apparent. (previous photo)

I took this duck photo in Peachland, BC a few years ago.

Just last month our condo board had a complaint from a resident that a duck had been spotted swimming in our pool and that the board should "do something about it". Short of closing the pool, enclosing it in wire netting, or issuing the duck a notice of Bylaw Complaint, we decided to live and let quack.

There are some ducks at the lake near our house I've known for so long if I sit down in the grass they'll crawl all over me hoping for food.

Cute ducks. But make sure they don't poop on you.

Sadly most beak usage I've seen from ducks on that lake is during duck gang rape season.

I may have posted this on another thread. Anyway, a short video (MP4) of hummingbirds at our camp in Illinois, just before they were leaving for the south... maybe Texas or Mexico... frantic darting back and forth at the feeders. On another attempt at capturing the action, one of the little guys landed on my camera. They spend the whole summer around my park model, and come for breakfast right after sunrise... lunch at noon... and dinner between 5 and 6PM.
Refilling the feeder in the summer is about once in two or three weeks... In September, once every three or four days. The summer residents... about 6 at any one time, change to groups of 12 to 20 or more during fall migration.

There was a time when I was way into bird photography - not too many ducks though. Digging through the archives hear are a few of the duck/goose shots I found:
